Dear Brothers in Islam
Let us not forget to be steadfast in our faith and to observe obedience towards Allah s.w.t., even during the joyous holiday. Let us be thankful to Allah for giving us the opportunity to continue living today, and giving us the will to strive and to make our aims to be his His khalifahs on the surface of this Earth a reality, by making it prosperous with all our good deeds and to restraint from all that are wrong. May this effort be rewarded with His blessings, as well as to include us amongst those who attain the intercession of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. in the hereafter.

Dear blessed Jumaah congregation

As all of us are aware, today is the first day of the year 2010. As Muslims we should have the intelligence and vision, either collectively or individually, to ponder again on our future plans and what are our aims for this new year. Allah s.w.t. said in Surah al-Hasyr verse 18:

Which means:”O you who believe! Be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent on for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.”

Let us together use this verse as an inspiration for us to progress, using various initiatives that can inspire us to be better contributors than the day before. To the different levels of age groups present in this blessed gathering; children, teenagers, youths, adults and elders, increase the level of your knowledge, whether in religious or academic fields and in life skills. For those who are husbands or fathers, acquire a new skill that is fresh and relevant to supplement your role as the captains of Muslim families.

On this public holiday, I would like to call upon everyone here to seek various avenues and opportunities in increasing knowledge that is beneficial to all.

Zumratal Mukminin Rahimakumullah,

Current situations and environment often beckon healthy and productive minds to progress positively, for the sake of the community’s development. Ponder upon Allah s.w.t.’s words in Surah al-Zumar verse 9:

Which means: “Say: Are those who know and those who do not know alike? Only the men of understanding are mindful.”

Dear Brothers in Islam,

In the arena of religious knowledge, which is the pulse of the Muslim community, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore has introduced a new Islamic learning programme for adults. It is known as Adult Islamic Education or Adult IE, and is conducted in various mosques islandwide. This programme acts as a basic platform for those who wish to increase their Islamic knowledge and understanding, taking into consideration the contemporary and modern lifestyle of Singapore. Each lesson is enhanced with the usage of Powerpoint presentations, notes for every student and interactive discussions between the educators and students. Amongst the new subjects introduced through this programme is the Islamic Worldview. This subject focuses on discussions of mankind’s need for religion, it also highlights the basics of Islam, the beauty of Islam compared to other religions and it emphasizes on the final result that we aspire to achieve together as followers of this beautiful religion.

Looking into its contents, this subject provides students or participants with essential basic knowledge to overcome the challenges of the cosmopolitan life, with its different races and beliefs. This is very much required by the adults of the Muslim community in Singapore. As Muslims, we should return to our roots and pure Islamic principles. Do take a moment to ponder on our responsiblity towards our own welfare as well as the community’s. Prophet Muhammad s.a.w said,

Which means: Each of you are leaders, and are responsible for your followers. (As reported by Bukhari)

Dear blessed congregations,

Singapore Muslim community in general, has an important role to uplift the religious life in this particular secular state. Let us continue to strive to uplift ourselves as a contributive community. Let us support the good iniciatives that has been done for our benefits. That is by either taking part in the programmes or to give positive feedbacks. If there are any shortcomings and weaknesses, we, as a community member have the right to share ideas which are rational, factual and accurately presented. This will enhance the academics discussion’s culture objectively.

In reality, each knowledge we attain is an effort to render our services and contributions to mankind’s development and subsequently become progressive and respected Muslims.

There are also free religious knowledge services that can be found on Islamic websites such as Islamonline.net. Its contents consist of various knowledge guidance that cover all aspects of life, such as contemporary issues, a Muslim’s daily responsibilities, Islamic banking and finance, fatwas, religious questions and answers and parental skills. All these were compiled by a group of learned Muslim scholars and elitists who extend their service specifically for the purpose of delivering Allah’s amanah. Imagine, if we move forward progressively from now on, it is not impossible that someday in the future, our children or grandchildren become similar contributors to this website or even much better.

Dear beloved Brothers in Islam

Let us together again plant the spirit and desire to revive Islamic excellence in ourselves. We should not only be at the receiving end, waiting to except services and contributions, but it should be such that we are the main players of this world’s league. We live as individuals who understand the value of time and life’s aims. We build families with vision. We become knowledge-seekers who are excellent and hardworking, subsequently becoming contributors to mankind’s ever-growing civilisation and lastly, we bow humbly to our God Almighty Most Gracious. May we be included amongst those who succeed and blessed by Allah s.w.t. always. Amin.
