All praises be to Allah, Lord of all Universe. Praises be to Prophet Muhammad saw, his family and his companions.

Yesterday while our crew was at the Islamic Book Fair at Masjid Kassim we bump into a friend who shared with us a thought.

Why aren’t there that many people at the Book Festival? I replied back, “Perhaps its a week day…”

Then he began to make comparison between those book fairs in EXPO and at Suntec City. Why are these places crowded when they have fairs then even on weekdays? Furthermore its the holiday period.

And so I began to ponder on how we can improve it. Let’s not talk about pre-marketing events because it has already passed. Let’s talk about now and how we can help to create more awareness about this.

And so I took my Iphone and uploaded a picture of the Book I bought.. See below.

and then I took out my camera and began taking more shots..

By just pushing up a few images on Facebook, instantaneously people are getting the buzz about the book fair. I have already had people commenting about the books and asking where to get them. And some giving testimonials to the books they have read.

So what do you think? How can we help them get more buzz about the event?

Get more details of the book fair here

Your kind thoughts are appreciated. Please comment below.

Do your kids need Tuition? Enroll them this November to prepare them for next year’s syllabus.

How’s their results by the way? Good or Bad does it matter? Well perhaps if they don’t do well you realize that their fundamentals are not that strong yet? Do they need to polish those basic information?

Yes, January 2010 is still a long way for the new semester but that doesn’t stop you from allowing your Kids to be ahead of others right? I remembered when I was in Primary School, I would have friends whom have done and understood the topics taught in school way earlier than I did. So it was easier for them to do the homework and so on.

Or your kids would have too much time playing games on the internet or that Nintendo Wii. Besides playing games, perhaps you want to stimulate their minds with academic materials before they start school again next year. So that they won’t be rusty when school reopens. Its just once or twice a week.

For those living in the Northern Side of Singapore ( Woodlands, Sembawang ) , you may want to check out Alnitak’s Tuition Services.

How often is it that you get inspired by something in your email? Now how about getting inspired every week by a line from the Qur’an?

In our busy schedules and increasing dependence on emails and the web, Faithhub and Islamicevents.sg has collaborated on a project to get into the business of inspiring people.

Its a simple recipe to get blessings from Allah:

Reflect on lines that you have read from the Qur’an.

Write a few lines about your reflection.

Find someone who has the means & tools to spread the message.

Get others to also reflect and hopefully be inspired!

Sounds simple enough, no? If you are interested in getting such emails to help you reflect and get inspired yourself, visit www.quranicinspirations.com

Bismillāh ar-Rahmān ar-Rahīm
In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

About a month or two ago, my mum came back with a wide smile on her face and proceeded to show-off a present she got from a friend. It was an A4-sized, deep brown with beautiful design on the hard cover. Flipping through, the pages were made of crisp light brown paper that had clear fonts and light pink borders. Needless to say, it looked impressive. What was more impressive was what was inside.

Sure, its a Malay translation of the Qur’an. But its not just any translation. While all other translations in the market provide line-by-line translation, this particular also offers a word-by-word translation – most suitable for anyone keen to pick up or brush up on your Arabic language.

Here’s an example:

The line-by-line translation is found at the side:

If you notice, on the second ayah, there’s a reference number 924. At the bottom of the pages, there are footnotes to further explain certain words or the whole line.

The best thing I found with regards to this translation is the Index at the back. Categorised under broad headings like Akhlak, Wanita, Ilmu & Cabang-Cabangya etc, what follows are lines in the Qur’an that correspond to that particular topic or theme!

Here’s a visual example:

Above you can see the broad heading of Dakwah Kepada Allah and on the other side, it says “Perbuatan Buruk”.

Over here, its under the heading of Akhlak.

Neat isn’t it?

That’s not all! It also comes together with a bookmark that has the Doa for Sujud Tilawah, the different signs of waqof and also, another index that details from Juz 1 all the way till Juz 30 all the lines that are similar! It is said that its supposed to help those who are in the process of memorizing the al-Qur’an to differentiate the similar-sounding lines.

While my lucky mum got it as a gift from a friend, the rest of you can own one too or give it as a gift to someone you love.

Well it kind of work backwards. This video was supposed to be out first before the product came out but due to their hectic work schedule, Digital Means still managed to squeeze some time to produce it. Alhamdullilah its ready for viewing now..

Here’s our review on it..

After reviewing the DVD once, we found that the content in this DVD is great. Its good for children and its great for adults too.

In this 1 hour 5 mins video, it is broken up into several sections teaching:
- What is solat?
- History of Solat – Israk Mikraj.
- The Wudhu.
- The Azan.
- 2 Rakaat / 3 Rakaat / 4 Rakaat ( Step by Step instructions ).
- Solat Positions even in Uzur conditions.
- How to perform the Ghusl bath
- & many more including a Bonus track.

Furthermore it also highlighted what is sunnah (optional) and what is wajib (compulsary).

During the praying steps, children could easily forward and playback Dua’s such as Dua after the Wudhu, Doa Qunut and so on to help them memorise each one easily. It also comes with meaning with each sentence of Dua being displayed on the screen.

Some of the sections like the Solat steps are quite repetitive, hence it could be boring but as it is a DVD, you could forward and skip the sections that you may not want to view again. In other words you can choose the segments that you would want to watch again and again for your kids or even yourself to learn from.
