Apologies for not having the Five Friday Fix last week as yours truly was recuperating at home. Anyhow, alhamdulillah I am back in office and I hope this week’s links would be of benefit.

1. First off, I am just majorly impressed by Russia for their nationwide ban on gambling and closing of all casinos. Thats $1billion in tax gone! One line in the article that made me go “Awww” was when Moscow deputy mayor Sergei Bardakov said, “the ban was to protect the health of society”.Now if only Singapore had the same mindset.
2. Hot in the news right now too is French President pushing for the ban of the burka in France. You can read two views of the issue: Mona el-Tahawy is a Muslim and a feminist and is against the burka, and here’s one by a burka-wearing chick. What are your views?
3. This week’s video pick really moved me. Its Surah al-Fatiha in British Sign Language. (There is no sound as it was originally made for the deaf.)

   Having had little exposure to the deaf community in Singapore, I know they use the American Sign Language. But what really makes me wonder is how the deaf get their Islamic education. Really something to think about, don’t you think so? Much of our efforts are towards able-bodied Muslims, are there individual or collective efforts to help the rest?

4. A lot of people have been wondering if Michael Jackson passed away as a Muslim or not. Well, here’s something to read to finally put your heart at ease

   .

5. I came across this gem of a website that has podcasts of lectures and talks by Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar. Do check it out. I’m sure it would be of great benefit.

Sure, it may be that it is not your rezki yet but it may also be due to one’s mistakes in their daily prayers.

We may not realise the mistakes we might have done during our prayers, so here’s the chance to recall our basics, and for newbies to learn from scratch.

Sultan mosque is organising an 8-weeks Basic Solat Course just for ladies. This course is open to anyone who wants to learn how to conduct their prayers well.

So ladies, whether you’re a beginner, or have been praying since as long as you can remember, this a good avenue to learn especially since it is going to be an all women session.

Date & time: Every Saturday from 3 – 4.30 pm. (Starting this Saturday 5 July)

Venue: Sultan mosque.

Fees: Only $100.00 per person. (Course fees not inclusive of course materials.)

Lessons are conducted by Ustazah Siti Rahmah Abdul Hamid.

This course is limited to only 20 people.
