Assalammualaikum wr wb,

Its quite sad for me to say this but we did SPAM your walls last Friday due to a very bad bug in our code that causes it. Yes we take responsibility of this problem.

This App was developed initially for a small group of people but we never know it could just keep growing so fast and end up facing problems that we couldn’t forsee. Perhaps the lack of experience. We apologize for all the trouble caused.

Imagine this, you open a shop expecting a few hundreds of people to patronize it. Then One day, there are thousands flooding your shop. One person you have to handle cashier and when products runs out you are also the one shelving the products on the shelf. Sooner or later it became chaotic.

Some people might tell you that it is a good problem because many people out there struggle just to bring one customer to their shop whereas we had thousands coming at it at one time.

Perhaps that is true, however with such growth also comes a lot more challenges that needs to be overcome.

This event has definitely thought us a lot about Scaling the systems. Allow us time to figure out the right algorithms and processes and hopefully we can relaunch this on this weekend.
Ya Allah help us in this journey…

In everything we create there is no perfection in it. Perfection comes from making adjustments and making tweaks along the way in this journey we call life. Similarly in software development, it’s really about testing, tweaking, making mistakes again, making correction again and the whole cycle repeats itself.

So this morning, we took the time to amend certain aspects of the Facebook Daily Prayer Time Software.

We have gotten great reviews and comments but we would personally look for critics and recommendations too. And so we listen to them.

After much thought last night, we put ourselves infront of the computer again to amend the system.

And so now you have two options during the installation process of the App.

The first option after installation only posts once a day during Subuh. The second option after installation will posts 6 times a day ( 5 daily prayer times plus one good night message )

We hope that this app would benefit you, remind you and also inspire you to be closer to Allah swt.

The following story was copied and shared from Bro Ari Yusmir‘s Facebook wall with permission.

Narrated to us by brother Mahmud from Preston, England.

Once, he along with a group of Muslims were visiting a city for inviting others to Allah. They happened to pass by a group of youths who were Muslims by birth but became gang members. The brothers didn’t give those gang members the negative attitude that others give while passing by them. Rather, they went and hand-shook with them out of brotherhood. With love and affection, the brothers invited the youths to come to the Masjid.

Not being familiar with such kindness, the gang members were surprised and decided to come to the Masjid for once.

These youths were so much away from Islam that they were smoking in the Masjid and doing a lot of other disrespectful acts. However, brother Mahmud and others were discussing with them about the Greatness of Allah with patience and endurance.

A time came when the brothers had to return to their homes and before leaving they advised the gang members to turn towards Allah.

After several years, brother Mahmud was attending a large gathering of Muslims when suddenly someone called him from the back. There were few people dressed in sunnah standing behind him.

They asked brother Mahmud if he recognizes them. They told him, “We are those gang members whom you visited few years back. We decided to go out and learn more about Islam and eventually changed our lives.”

Dear friends, we should never underestimate certain people because of the way they are as every individual has the capacity to become a friend of Allah. It is only Allah who guides; we can only try with kindness to reach out to their hearts.

♥ Wishing U A Blessed Monday!

————————————————————————–

We will never know how Allah will move our hearts, but what we know is that we can always encourage and inspire people even if we think they don’t care about us.

Inspire one person at a time to the Deen.

Assalammualaikum wr wb,

For the last 3 years we have enjoyed building softwares and application for the sole purpose of distributing information and creating awareness to our friends in facebook and twitter.

One of the applications that we built for ourselves for those years was the Facebook Prayer updates on Islamicevents.sg Facebook Page. How it works is that, our FB Page walls will be updated automatically 5 times a day. Yes its automatic.

See example of the Wall post below.

Above is an example of how the post will look like for the Subuh updates.

Initially I was skeptical about what he told me when we met me in one of my internet business classes. What he shared was that he knew of a technic call the AlBaghdadi way to learn to read the Quran which claims to help someone to be able to read the Quran in 3 months even if he is a beginner.

And so he invited me in one of the session at Woodlands.

Upon arriving at the door of the place, I heard knocking sounds in the room. There I was surprised to see young children from the age of 4 years old using a stick to hit a wooden block (as shown in the above picture) .

See this video.

And seeing the children do the knocking while learning to recite I recalled how we were taught music in Primary school. We sang songs while we clap.

So how does the knocking of the stick helps?

Scientifically I do not have a clue how it works but what I know and can share from experience and readings is that the mind works better when we are in “Action” or in Movement.

Mr Abu Bakar also shared that by hitting the sticks, the person will be more consistent in the Harakahs. So how often do we read it wrongly because we don’t have a sense of rythm? Two harakats could end up being 3 harakats and such. So through this Albaghdadi system, it disciplines the student to be consistent while reading the Quran.

This Albaghdadi system is not only for kids or teenagers, it also applies to Adults.

“The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets.”- The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon
him), as related by Tirmidhi

It was a wet Saturday morning as many thronged the humble auditorium of Masjid Khadijah to learn more about the preeminent scholar Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad Al-Ghazali, better known to the world as Imam Al Ghazali. Four local scholars, namely Ustaz Ghouse Khan, Ustaz Feisal Hassan, Ustaz Anwar Hussein and Ustaz Muhammad Mukhtar, each took turns to elaborate on different aspects of Al Ghazali’s life and work.

Ustaz Ghouse was the first to take the stand. Apologising for his self-described poor command of English, Ustaz Ghouse explained that he had kept the English language in the drawer, as he put it, as he pursued his studies in Islam and only recently relearned to speak with some fluency. Ustaz Ghouse took the opportunity to elaborate on Imam Al Ghazali’s biography, beginning with his early childhood and initiation into the study of the din, his appointment as the Mudir of the Nizamiyyah of Baghdad (a position whose importance was equivalent to that of a qadi or a mufti) and subsequent spiritual crisis which led to him leaving his post to his brother to go into isolation.

Ustaz Ghouse stated that just he had put his English aside, during his time as Mudir Imam Al-Ghazali too
had cast aside the spiritual lessons of his youth, believing them to be unimportant and subsequently forgotten them. It was only during his period of isolation in Damascus that Al-Ghazali rediscovered tasawuf and wrote some of his greatest works, including the Ihya Ulumuddin (Revival of the Religious
Sciences).

Ustaz Ghouse also spent some time addressing the idea that Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani had been a student of Imam Al-Ghazali, stating that while their histories meant they were unlikely to have met, there was a possibility that the young man addressed in Al Ghazali’s tract Ayyuhal Walad was in fact a young Abdul Qadir Jilani.

After a short break, Ustaz Feisal took to the microphone next to deliver his talk on ‘Identifying Al Ghazali’s Concept of Wasatiyyah’.Quoting Ibn Manzur’s definition in Lisan Al-Arab, Ustaz Feisal identified ‘Wasat’ as “the best, the middle between two extremes and the most just” and saying the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) would be the Ummah Wasat on the day of judgement, as revealed by Allah in Surah Al Baqarah verse 143. He then presented the key characteristics of Ummah Wasat as identified by Imam Al Ghazali in the Ihya Ulumuddin including wisdom (al-hikmah), courage (al-shuja’ah) and modesty (‘iffah). Ustaz Feisal balanced the heavy, academic content of his presentation with humour, provoking laughter as he advised against Muslims venting all their frustrations on Facebook and spoke on the need to ‘wasatise’ Facebook.

There was a short question and answer segment, where Ustaz Feisal and Ustaz Ghouse clarified and elaborated on certain sections of their presentation, stressing on the need for Muslims to study the religion and put into practice what we learn, given our own capabilities and the context of the realities that we live in.

After Zuhur, Ustaz Anwar delivered his talk on the aqidah and fiqh of Imam Al-Ghazali. He apologized that he would have to sidetrack a bit to explain the aqidah of Imam Abu Hassan Al-Ashari, founder of the Ashari school of aqidah, in order to better to explain Al-Ghazali’s view of aqidah.

He explained that the aqidah of Imam Al-Ghazali was the same as the aqidah of Abu Hassan Al-Ashari, which was the aqidah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him), and that it was equivalent to the aqidah of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, founder of the Hanbali madhab of fiqh. Ustaz Anwar stated we live in times similar to that which Al Ghazali lived in, with many differing and competing ideologies within Islam itself. He insisted that such clarifications were necessary to correct the misconceptions of our Muslim brothers and sisters who were, as Shaykh Faraz Rabbani puts it, ‘attitudinally-divergent’ and seek to refute what they see as deviant opinions on aqidah held by Imam Al-Ashari and Imam Al-Ghazali.

The last speaker of the day, Ustaz Muhammad Mukhtar, gave a brief introduction to the Ihya Ulumuddin in his presentation ‘Understanding Ihya Ulumuddin: Al-Ghazali’s Magnum Opus’. Ustaz Mukhtar began by pointing out the connection Imam Ghazali made between the Shariah and Tasawuf, and added that neither could exist without the other, and continued to say that Imam Al-Ghazali tied all the religious sciences together in the Ihya, in essence tying the dunya and the akhirah together by revealing the inner dimensions of religious rituals. He then concluded by reading a short section on the Discipline of the Soul and promoted a class he would be conducting at Khadijah Mosque on Saturday afternoons after Asar on the Ihya Ulumuddin itself.

After Asar prayers, Ustaz Anwar and Ustaz Mukhtar together fielded questions from the audience. Ustaz Mukhtar clarified what exactly Sufism and tasawuf were, and drew laughter with his statement that to become a Sufi was easy, by simply reading Bidayat al Hidaya and following the advice Imam Al-Ghazali offered within. A brother asked the Ustazs to clarify what the difference was between a Sufi and a Salafi, why one would need a Shaykh and how to find one. Ustaz Anwar stressed that there was no conflict between Sufi and Salafi, as Sufism simply means that one practices Ihsan, one of the foundations of the religion as stated in the hadith of Jibril, and Salafi refers not to a madhab, but to a timeframe of history within the first three hundred years after hijrah, meaning that the mujtahid Imams of the four Sunni Madhabs could all be considered salafis. Ustaz Mukhtar continued by saying that taking a shaykh was like consulting a doctor to cure spiritual diseases, and that one could find a shaykh by waking for the night prayers (tahajjud) and making du’a to Allah to find one.

Kudos go to the Khadijah Mosque Management Board for organizing the Al Ghazali Seminar, and shedding light on Imam Al-Ghazali, a giant in the world of Islamic scholarship and truly an inheritor of the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him). May Allah bless their efforts and may they continue to organize such events for the benefit of the Muslim community in Singapore.

Are we not sad looking at the conditions of kuliahs at our mosques. Well besides the popular Asatizahs conducting which has many people, I am actually sadden by the state of some of the classes being run.

As I was at Kassim Mosque yesterday, I took this photo and publish it on Facebook.

Because of this image being shown.. See the response.

As you can see, there are many people who are looking for such events, classes and mind you they are Hungry for such knowledge.

So its quite sad to see a whole big room with only 5 people in the room. Kind of depressing if you ask me.

Now where do we go wrong?

Ideally it would be wonderful to have full house crowds in every class in every mosque each week. But we know it boils to many factors. Here’s a list.

1) Topic
2) Awareness
3) Constant Communication
4) Time
5) Venue
6) Speaker

Each of those factors has big roles to get crowds in the room but I purposely put them in this order to tell you that based on my experience and own knowledge ( I may be wrong ) that this is order that you can follow to get good audience.

Speakers I put last because it really has the least pulling power because I’ve been to Full House events without people knowing who the speaker is. Seriously. Strange right? So you see its not the highest priority actually.

Now let’s go through a little bit more detail.

1) Topic is the most important.

When you have the right topics that people are hungry for, they will come to you no matter who the speaker, where its being held, timings and such. Because if that topics hits their hearts and they have problems related to that, they will come. Insyallah.

2) Awareness

There are so many platforms today. Offline Media, Online Media. Word of mouth marketing and such. I say get it out there. You like it or not. Someone must do something to get it out there. If you are weak in this, admit it and contact us for consultation.

3) Constant Communication

What many don’t understand and get is that this is very important. Regardless of what platform you use, Facebook, Newspaper, SMS or anything, constant messaging and reminders is key to the success.

Change Your Words, Change Your World. So know now that these 3 points above carry the heaviest weight.

So Time, Venue and Speaker are seriously secondary. I wont elaborate on it. For some of you, you won’t agree with me but let me tell you its not as important as the top 3.

Here’s what I feel after 4 years of running Islamicevents.sg

A lot is being done. Yes you see it everywhere but majority of it I will say is for the SAKE of doing it. I believe such mentality should be erased from our community heads. In the past it would have work just to get an Asatizah to start a class and it spreads by word of mouth. But today, the challenges are different. The asatizah itself has to be buzzing and marketing about it in various platforms. Be it facebook, Islamicevents.sg, offline word of mouth or more.

Seriously a lot more work needs to be done.

The work can be never ending but its important to keep going on. If Rasulullah saw till his last days still work his way to remind us of Allah’s words, so why are we quitting so soon!

Let’s have heart, put in the faith that things will change, inspire yourself and others to learn and take proper actions and ENJOY this journey.

Imam al-Hasan al-Basri said:

“One who acts without knowledge is like one who travels off the path; and the one who acts without knowledge corrupts more than he rectifies.

So seek knowledge in a way that does not harm your worship, and seek to worship Allah in a way that does not harm your seeking of knowledge.

For verily, there were people {the Khawarij} who sought to worship Allah but abandoned knowledge until they attacked the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ~ peace and blessings of Allah be upon him ~ with their swords.

But if they had sought knowledge, it would not have directed them to do what they did.”
