Youth aL.I.V.E. Discourse: Equality or Equity? : An Islamic Discourse on Gender
As a religion that promotes justice, abolishes discrimination against skin colour and ethnicity and has such a high regard for human dignity, it is unthinkable that Islam would neglect the rights of women let alone be biased against them. On the contrary, we find that there are verses in the Quran that seems unfair towards women. An example is the law of inheritance: Allah says, “The male shall have the equal of two females' share.” (Annisa' 11)
The Youth aLIVE Discourse will highlight and discuss these and other issues including the complimentary role of men. The speaker will discuss a balanced outlook on gender as mentioned in our sacred literatures contextualizing it to our modern society and diverse cultures.
