Dr Maliki Osman

Dr Maliki graduated with his Bachelor and Masters degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained his doctorate in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1998 and became an Assistant Professor at the NUS Department of Social Work and Psychology that year.

Dr Maliki was elected a Member of Parliament for the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in 2001. He was re-elected for a second term in May 2006. Dr Maliki is currently the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of National Development (MND). He served as Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development Youth and Sports (MCYS) from Aug 2004 to Jun 2006 and the Ministry of Health (MOH) from Aug 2004 to Oct 2005.

Dr Maliki serves as Chairman of the Community Improvement Projects Committee (CIPC) and the People's Association's Community Development Fund Management Committee (PACDF). He is also the Deputy Chairman of the National Youth Guidance and Rehabilitation Committee (NYGR). He is also a member of the Government Parliamentary Committees (GPC) for Defence and Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs and Law.

At the community level, Dr Maliki is Advisor to the Centre for Promoting Alternative to Violence (PAVe) and ADAM (Active Devoted Able family Men) Association. He co-chairs the Family Development Network of the Malay/Muslim Community Leaders' Forum.

Internationally, Dr Maliki is the Regional Representative (Southeast Asia) to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Dr Maliki is married with two young children, a girl and a boy. He spends most of his leisure time with his wife and children, going out to the movies or to the library. He plays badminton and golf regularly to keep himself fit and healthy. He has recently taken an interest in playing the traditional Chinese musical instrument, the Guzheng.
